Armed forces officers and family members of Group Captain Varun Singh paid their respects to the officer during a wreath-laying ceremony at Yelahanka Air Force Station in Bengaluru on Thursday.

Group Captain Varun Singh was the lone survivor of the IAF helicopter crash that killed Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat and 12 others. The helicopter crashed in Coonoor, Tamil Nadu, last week.

Group Captain Varun Singh was rescued from the wreckage and transported to a military hospital in Wellington for treatment. The officer's body was burned to 45 per cent. He was then airlifted to Bengaluru's Command Hospital for further treatment.

Group Captain Varun Singh succumbed to his injuries at the Air Force Command Hospital on Wednesday after fighting for his life for days.
