NITI Aayog has released the country's first multidimensional poverty index report, after which the political mercury is hot. In the figures released by the commission, out of the five states that are on the top in terms of poverty, four are BJP-ruled states. Somewhere BJP has a single absolute majority government and somewhere there is a one and a half decade old coalition government. In terms of the population of the poor, Uttar Pradesh is at the top of them.
