World Champion PV Sindhu's Day Out With Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju

World badminton champion PV Sindhu met Union sports minister Kiren Rijiju on Tuesday. Sindhu, who in Basel on Sunday won her maiden world badminton championships in five attempts, was presented a cheque for Rs 10,000 by the minister. Joining them were Himanta Biswa Sarma, president of Badminton Association of India; national coach and former All-England champion Pullela Gopichand, Korean coach Kim Ji-Hyun and Sindhu’s father, PV Ramana, a bronze medalist in volleyball at the 1986 Asian Games. Radheyshyam Julaniya, Secretary (Sports) and Sandip Pradhan, Director-General, SAI were also present. Sindhu also met Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The world championship medal is Sindhu's biggest achievement after winning silver at the 2016 Rio Olympics. The government also gifted a Rs 4 lakh cheque to Sai Praneeth for winning a bronze medal at the world championships. Sai's medal came after Prakash Padukone won a bronze in 1983.
