Can a two-party coalition save our democracy?
With the GOP still supporting Trump, is our democracy doomed? Harvard government professor Steven Levitsky, who co-wrote “How Democracies Die,” shares his predictions and his prescription for how Democrats can fight back. “Even if the Republicans steal the 2024 election, ending democracy momentarily, and that could happen, that's not going to be the end of the story,” he said. “We're not going to slide into 30 years of authoritarianism.”

Levitsky explains how progressives, as much as they don’t want to, must reach across the aisle to build a coalition in defense of democracy. This “small D democratic coalition” must include a broad swath of leaders, he says.
