Lokmat Maharashtrian of the Year Awards 2017 - Mungantiwar began with journalism to solve social problems and later entered politics and set a new record in the Limca Book of Rrecords by planting 2.82 crore saplings as the forest minister! He toured extensively throughout the state as the state BJP chief and launched an intense agitation against the then government driving it up the wall. His achievements include the stablishment of Gondwana University for the two districts of Chandrapur and Gadchiroli, formation of Ballarpur taluka, setting up a rescue centre for leopards in Sanjay Gandhi National Park, getting the Blue Mormon butterfly declared as the state butterfly and starting ‘Namami Chandrabhaga’ on the pattern of ‘Namami Gange’ , among other projects. He has given a great relief to traders and vehicle owners by a LBT waiver and toll waiver.
