The full moon of Ashadh month is also called Guru Purnima. This year Ashadha Purnima or Guru Purnima is on 24th July, Saturday. Maharishi Ved Vyas was born on the day of Ashadha Purnima. He gave the knowledge of the four Vedas to mankind and composed all the Puranas. In view of the contribution of Maharishi Ved Vyas, Ashadh Purnima is called Guru Purnima. Guru is worshiped on this day. Along with keeping the fast of Ashadh Purnima, devotees worship Lord Vishnu and recite or listen to Satyanarayan Katha. According to the Hindu calendar, the full moon of Ashadha month will start from 10:43 am on 23rd July (Friday) and will continue till 08.06 am on 24th July. Due to full moon being celebrated in Udaya Tithi, it will be celebrated on 24th July, Saturday.

आषाढ़ मास की पूर्णिमा को गुरु पूर्णिमा भी कहते हैं। इस साल आषाढ़ पूर्णिमा या गुरु पूर्णिमा 24 जुलाई, दिन शनिवार को है। आषाढ़ पूर्णिमा के दिन ही महर्षि वेद व्यास का जन्म हुआ था। उन्होंने मानव जाति को चारों वेदों का ज्ञान दिया था और सभी पुराणों की रचना की थी। महर्षि वेदव्यास के योगदान को देखते हुए आषाढ़ पूर्णिमा को गुरु पूर्णिमा कहते हैं। इस दिन गुरु की पूजा की जाती है। आषाढ़ पूर्णिमा का व्रत रखने के साथ ही भक्त भगवान विष्णु की अराधना करते हैं और सत्यनारायण कथा का पाठ या श्रवण करते हैं। हिंदू पंचांग के अनुसार, आषाढ़ मास की पूर्णिमा 23 जुलाई (शुक्रवार) को सुबह 10 बजकर 43 मिनट से शुरू होगी, जो कि 24 जुलाई की सुबह 08 बजकर 06 मिनट तक रहेगी। उदया तिथि में पूर्णिमा मनाए जाने के कारण यह 24 जुलाई, शनिवार को मनाई जाएगी।
