Absence of TMC turncoats in Bengal BJP meet sparks rumours
  • 3 years ago
At a time when several turncoat politicians are expressing regret at quitting Trinamool Congress and joining the BJP, Mukul Roy and Rajib Banerjee's absence from a high-powered organizational meet has sparked intense speculation.

Last weekend, Mukul Roy’s son Subhrangshu Roy had taken to Facebook to thank chief minister Mamata Banerjee for reaching out to his family in their “hour of need". Roy himself was a founder-member of the TMC before quitting the fold in 2017 and rising to prominence in the saffron party. On the other hand, Rajib Banerjee jumped ship from the TMC in January this year and contested the Bengal assembly polls on a BJP ticket.

On the sidelines of the meeting, Banerjee took to Twitter to say that imposing president’s rule in West Bengal, amplified in response to incidents of post-poll violence, would be going against the people’s mandate.

“Enough with the criticism. The people elected the government with a majority, they will not take it well if the threat of Section 365 is constantly dangled to oppose the chief minister,” the BJP leader tweeted.
