Covishield Blood Clot Risk Minuscule but Govt Not Transparent, Need Urgent Inquiry—Gagandeep Kang
  • 3 years ago
Note: The symptoms of a post-vaccination blood clot that Dr Gagandeep Kang describes at 31'10'' are very rare but watch out for them between 4 and 20 days of your jab

In a 35 minute interview to Karan Thapar for The Wire, Dr Gagandeep Kang, considered to be one of India’s top vaccine scientists, said that in India we simply don't have any official information whether there have been worrying blood clots with a low platelet count after taking the Covishield vaccine. AstraZeneca's shot is called Covishield in India. In the last few weeks, reports of rare forms of blood clots showing up in a small number of this vaccine's recipients in Europe had sent alarm bells ringing among national regulators in various countries. Dr Kang said that these conditions are marked by blood clots in veins in the brain and abdomen accompanied by low platelet counts. She also said that hospitals would no doubt have this information but didn't know if it had reached the government's adverse events committee or, if it had, what the committee has done with the data. The committee and the government have simply not said anything at all, and the government stopped sharing any details of potential vaccine-related side effects in India after February 26. There is no transparency at all regarding this matter. Later in the interview, she also said the government “is trying to do it’s best.”
