Gaming – India’s Most Lucrative Entertainment Industry & its Hazards I Mitali Mukherjee

In a conversation with Mitali Mukherjee, Girish Menon who is the lead for Media and Entertainment at KPMG said there is huge growth opportunity for the market, however at this point the landscape consists largely of casual and hyper-casual players. ARPUs (Average revenue per user) have improved over the years and the COVID-19 pandemic caused an exponential rise in traffic, both in India and across the world.

Jyotsna Mohan Bhargava, is an author who’s recently released book “Stoned, Shamed, Depressed” explores the issues India’s urban teens are struggling with. She highlights that one of the most challenging issues facing young teens is gaming addiction. Jytosna warns that just expecting the gaming industry to self -regulate will not be enough. While laws exist for betting and gambling laws, deeper thought and regulation will be required both within households and as a community to ensure young and vulnerable children are not exposed to unsafe content, or left to slip into an addictive dependence on gaming.
