After saving a six-year-old boy who fell on the railway track at Vangani station in Maharashtra from an approaching train, railway pointsman Mayur Shelkhe has decided to give the money he was awarded by the Ministry of Railways to the family of the child.

Shelkhe, a resident of Neral in Maharashtra, was awarded Rs 50,000 by the Ministry for his heroic act.

He said that the boy’s mother, a resident of Vangani, had called him to thank him. He continued, “She is a housewife and she’s blind. Her husband must be earning something but the family is very poor. They cannot provide for the six-year-old boy's future. So I have decided that I will give the money that I am getting to the family."
