Watch: Mamata Banerjee's fresh gotra card for Bengal battle
  • 3 years ago
Voting in the second phase of assembly election in West Bengal began at 7 am today. While a total of 30 seats in Bengal are voting in this phase, all eyes will be on Nandigram where Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee is up against her former aide and heavyweight leader Suvendu Adhikari in his bastion.

Mamata Banerjee has given up her traditional Bhowanipore seat to contest from Nandigram in a challenge to defeat Suvendu Adhikari, who ditched TMC and joined BJP months ahead of the Bengal assembly election. Of the 30 seats that are voting today, 23 were won by TMC in the 2016 assembly elections, five by Left Front and Congress and BJP one each. In Assam, five ministers, the deputy speaker and some key opposition leaders are in the fray today in Phase 2 of Assam assembly elections.
