Covid surge: Fear of lockdown looms over Maharashtra

Lockdown is certainly an option, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray said on Friday. The state has been reporting a sharp surge in new confirmed cases of Covid-19. Measures such as night curfews and weekend lockdowns are already in place in various parts of the state.
Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray said on Friday that a statewide lockdown is certainly an option but he still expects cooperation from citizens.
The new strain of the novel coronavirus is here and numbers are also growing, CM Thackeray said. He goes on to add that the Maharashtra government and its health department are still unsure whether the rapid spread of infection in the state is a result of the new Covid-19 strain.
