Eddie Huang opens up to Salon’s D. Watkins about his directorial debut, the feature film “Boogie,” which he also wrote, about a Chinese-American high school basketball star with NBA dreams. Huang explains how “Boogie,” out in theaters March 5 and starring Taylor Takahashi, the late rapper Pop Smoke and Taylour Paige, became “the vision of America that I believe in,” where race and culture cross and co-exist at every turn.




Huang also spoke about being a multi hyphenate in the entertainment business, with talents that extend across writing (his memoir inspired “Fresh Off the Boat" on ABC), food and travel (his Manhattan restaurant Baohaus and Vice show “Huang’s World”).
