The incident happened in the 18th over of England’s second innings when the English skipper was facing spinner Axar Patel. On the fifth ball of the over, the left-arm spinner bowled a flighted delivery which was turning away and Root pushed it towards point. It was all fine till that point before Virat Kohli came running from the covers, picked the ball, and delivered a poor throw. While he would have liked to throw the ball straight to wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant who was standing behind the stumps, Kohli threw the ball in front of the stumps where Root was standing.
