EC asks petrol pumps to remove hoardings with PM's photos
  • 3 years ago
The Election Commission of India has directed petrol pumps to remove hoardings that carry photographs of Prime Minister Narendra Modi within 72 hours. The poll panel said use of the prime minister's photos in hoardings that advertise the central government's schemes at petrol pumps violates the election model code of conduct (MCC). The Model of conduct came into effect last Friday when the Election Commission announced dates for assembly elections in West Bengal, Assam, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. The Election Commission's direction comes after the Trinamool Congress (TMC) approached the poll panel complaining against use of PM Modi's photos in posters and videos used for Covid-19 vaccination drive.
