Chaos after water main break floods NYC streets
  • 3 years ago
A massive water main break flooded the streets and stranded motorists in Queens early Thursday.

The main ruptured on Vernon Boulevard near 41st Avenue in Long Island City, near the Ed Koch Queensboro Bridge, around 3:30 am.
Firefighters needed to help some drivers who were stuck in their cars.

The break sent water flooding into the basements of two buildings in the adjacent Queensbridge Houses, a NYCHA development, and left residents there without water service.
“Crews are on scene and have shut off water to stop the leak,” a city Department of Environmental Protection spokesman told later in the morning.

He said that repairs are “underway” and will be completed “ASAP so water service can be restored.”
