In a first, the Ice Hockey Association of India will hold a national tournament in the newly developed open-air rink amidst the stunning backdrop of the Himalayas in Himachal Pradesh's Spiti Valley, a cold desert, officials said on Friday. "We are going to hold the under-20 ice hockey tournament in Himachal Pradesh for the first time. It will start on January 27," Ice Hockey Association of India General Secretary Harjinder Singh told IANS over phone.

लाहौल स्पीति के काजा उपमंडल में गुरुवार को आइस हॉकी कोचिंग कैंप एंव टूनामेंट का शुभारंभ किया गया. शिविर में बतौर मुख्यातिथि भारतीय आइस हॉकी संघ के महासचिव हरजिन्द्र सिंह जींदी ने शिरकत की. आईस स्केटिंग हॉकी कोचिंग कैंप भारतीय आइस हॉकी संघ के साथ आयोजित किया जा रहा है. इस कैंप में 165 छात्र छात्राओं को राष्ट्रीय स्तर के कोच अमित बेरबाल प्रशिक्षण दे रहे हैं. भारतीय आइस हॉकी संघ के महासचिव हरजिन्द्र सिंह जींदी ने कहा कि लाहौल स्पीति में विंटर स्पोर्टस की अपार संभावनाएं हैं. हम यहां पर आने वाले समय में आईस हॉकी, स्कीइंग और विंटर स्पोर्टस को नई राह मिलेगीं. ऐसी गतिविधियों से पयर्टक यहां अधिक से अधिक आएंगे.
