The renowned Mahatta Art studio was set up in a houseboat in Srinagar in 1915 and later opened many branches. Mohammad Sofi works at one such branch, at the studio on the shores of the Jhelum river. This place is a time capsule. Like a photographer preserves moments, the studio here preserves memories of the past, not only photographs but the instruments that were used to capture them.

मोहम्मद सोफी 50 से अधिक वर्षों से एक फोटोग्राफर हैं और उन्होंने फ़ोटोग्राफ़ी को फ़िल्म से डिजिटल तक जाते देखा है, और उन्होंने large box cameras से लेकर स्लीक डिजाइन कैमरों को ऑपरेट किया है। यहां तक​कि technology में तब से लेकर आज तक कैमरों की दुनिया में बहुत बड़े बदलाव आए हैं। लेकिन सोफी की जॉब में कोई चेंजिंस नहीं। उन्हें आज भी इन कैमरों से प्यार है। काफी यंग एज में मोहम्मद सोफी ने अपने इस काम को चुना और आज वो फोटोग्राफी के दिग्गज हैं। महत्ता आर्ट स्टूडियो को 1915 में श्रीनगर के एक हाउसबोट में स्थापित किया गया था। और बाद में इसकी ब्राचिस खुली।
