Delhi HC raps Kejriwal govt over coronavirus spike

Delhi High Court has rapped the Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP government for delaying the measures to tackle the recent spike in coronavirus cases and asked why were the restrictions on weddings etc brought after a wait of 18 days. “You were shaken out of slumber, you turned turtle after we asked questions,” said the Delhi High Court slamming the state government over its recent measures to tackle Covid-19 spike. “Why did you wait for 18 days to restrict the number of attendees at weddings, how many died of Covid-19 during this period,” the court further asked the Delhi government. Delhi High Court also noted that the quantum of fine for not wearing masks, not maintaining social distancing does not appear to be a deterrent among the population in Delhi as violations are rampant. On Wednesday, Delhi recorded the highest number of single-day Covid-19 deaths in the city. 131 people died in a day while the total number of coronavirus cases in Delhi crossed the 5 lakh-mark.
