Speaker threatens to call cops on DAP MP, issues 5-day suspension

DAP's Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng earned a five-day suspension from the Dewan Rakyat today after he called a ruling made by Deputy Speaker Azalina Othman Said "stupid".

Dewan Rakyat Speaker Azhar Azizan Harun initially imposed a two-day suspension but Lim's refusal to leave the hall earned him an additional three-day ban.

An outcry started when Lim Guan Eng (DAP-Bagan) requested Azhar to revisit a ruling made by Azalina. Yesterday, Azalina had ordered PDP's Bintulu MP Tiong King Sing to apologise for his allegedly offensive remarks against Health Ministry director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

Lip Eng interjected and said, "But the ruling is stupid!".

"You are too much... Keep quiet!," said Azhar as Lip Eng interrupted his attempt to deliver a ruling.

Azhar also threatened to call the police on Lip Eng after his refusal to retract the slur against Azalina and to leave the hall as instructed.
