On the day of Dhanteras, special worship is done to remove the fear of famine death. Yamdeepdan must be done on this day. By doing this, the fear of premature death ends. This is the only day in the whole year when Yamraj, the god of death, is worshiped only by donating a lamp. Some people also donate lamps on the day of Narak Chaturdashi.

धनतेरस के दिन अकाल मृत्‍यु का भय दूर करने के लिए विशेष प्रकार से पूजा की जाती है। इस दिन यमदीपदान जरूर करना चाहिए। ऐसा करने से अकाल मृत्यु का भय समाप्त होता है। पूरे वर्ष में एक मात्र यही वह दिन है, जब मृत्यु के देवता यमराज की पूजा सिर्फ दीपदान करके की जाती है। कुछ लोग नरक चतुर्दशी के दिन भी दीपदान करते हैं।
