Bihar election phase 1: Polling begins in 71 seats

The much-awaited Bihar Election 2020 has begun with the first phase of polling in 71 seats on Wednesday. Of the 243 seats, 71 assembly constituencies in 16 districts, including most of the Left-wing extremism (LWE) affected districts, are voting in the first phase of the Bihar polls. Polling is underway in the first phase of three-phase elections amid tight security and Covid-19 guidelines in place.
The fight is between the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA), which comprises the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Janata Dal (United) JD(U) among others, and Mahagathbandhan or Grand Alliance that is made up of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Congress and Left parties. The Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) is going solo this year. The Bihar Election 2020 will be held in three phases and the results will be announced on November 10.
