A month after Parliament passed them, the three contentious farm laws are back in the news. Punjab, which has been the epicentre of protests has passed Bills to counter the Central laws. With more non-BJP ruled states to follow suit, the issue is set to further strain the Center-State relations where Opposition parties are in power. The Punjab legislative assembly was within its rights to amend the three central farm laws because farmers would suffer “tremendous distress” if this was not done, Punjab finance minister Manpreet Singh Badal told India Today TV’s Consulting Editor Rajdeep Sardesai on Wednesday.
