World Cup winner Lilian Thuram has spoken of the hurt he endures as a father watching his two sons now play professional football with racist chanting still prevalent in the game.

While his eldest son Marcus is leading the line for German club Borussia Monchengladbach, his youngest boy Khephren, is playing at French side Nice - under the tutelage of Thuram's former international team-mate Patrick Vieira.

"Is the situation better now? There have been monkey chants at the stadium since I was a kid, and once I became a professional football player there were still monkey chants coming from the stands.

"I have two children who play football now, and the monkey chants are still there. We should be careful not considering things just based on one country, it is a trap. Racism is a global way of thinking, and it is very important to understand that," Thuram told SNTV in an exclusive interview.
