China is about to complete a new dam like the Three Gorges dam.
China is about to complete a new dam project known as the Three Gorges Dam in Xinjiang.

The Altash Dam project is located on the border between Kashgar and Kizilsu Kirghiz in Xinjiang. According to CGTN, the project started construction in 2011 with the aim of addressing the basin's seasonal extreme flooding.

The project totaled nearly 11 billion yuan (about $ 1.6 billion) and is sometimes referred to as the "Xinjiang Three Gorges Dam".

In May 2020, the main part of the dam was completed at an altitude of 164.8 meters. When completed, this dam can store 2.25 billion cubic meters of water. The dam is expected to control floods, reduce spring droughts and provide electricity to southern Xinjiang.

The Three Gorges Dam - the world's largest hydroelectric dam on the Yangtze River - is one of China's most ambitious and controversial projects.

Made of concrete and steel, the Three Gorges Dam is 2,355 meters long and the dam crest is 185 meters above sea level. The work has used 27.2 million cubic meters of concrete (mainly for the dam wall),
