Seals released into wild after recovery

This is the moment four South American fur seals and two Southern elephant seals are released into the sea after being found malnourished in Argentine rivers while searching for food. The South American fur seals (Arctocephalus australis) and the Southern elephant seal (Mirounga leonina) were released on Friday in San Clemente del Tuyu in the eastern Argentine province of Buenos Aires. The animals had been treated at the rehabilitation centre belonging to the foundation Mundo Marino. One of the four South American fur seals was rescued on 24th June in the Gualeguaychu River in the northeastern province of Entre Rios. Residents protected the seal from a possible dog attack and decided to take it to the Las Piedras Provincial Reserve from where it was later sent to Mundo Marino, according to a statement from the foundation.
