Need time to look at fresh HC order: Rajasthan Speaker Joshi withdraws plea in Supreme Court
  • 4 years ago
Rajasthan Assembly Speaker CP Joshi on Monday withdrew the petition challenging the state high court’s “interference” in the disqualification proceedings against sacked Deputy Chief Minister Sachin Pilot and 18 rebel Congress MLAs. The top court was to hear Speaker Joshi’s plea at 11 am today. Senior advocate and Congress veteran Kapil Sibal, who was representing the Speaker, told the top court that the HC has passed a fresh order on July 24, which has raised multiple issues including interpretation of the 10th Schedule and "we have to weigh our legal options on what to do next".

Meanwhile, amid an impasse over convening of the Assembly session in Rajasthan on Monday, three former law ministers wrote to the state governor, saying the delay in doing so has only resulted in an avoidable constitutional crisis.
