Hitch-hiking monkey settling into new life after raiding market in Thailand

A hitch-hiking monkey is now living happily inside a market in Ang Thong, central Thailand after officials gave up trying to catch him.

The macaque hid inside a pickup truck in Lopburi province and arrived at the neighbouring town 25 miles away from his troop.

He angered locals when raided the market two weeks ago stealing foods and snacks but now appeared to have calmed down and adapted to his new life

Footage shows the monkey enjoying his time in the market after he was familiar with the vendors.

One of the sellers Wipha Vetsuksom said that since council officials had been unable to take him away, the vendors will have to live with the monkey.

She said: "The officials brought the cage to trap the monkey but he is smart and did not fall for the trick, so we will have to get used to it.

"Moreover, the monkey now appears to be more friendly than when he arrived so we will give him food while the officials figure out a way to take him back."
