India celebrates the national doctor’s day every year to pay tribute to the contributions of doctors across the country. It is celebrated on July 1 to mark the birth as well as death anniversary of Dr Bidhan Chandra Roy, former chief minister of West Bengal and one of the most popular doctors of the nation. In 1991, the government of India recognized July 1 as the doctor’s day. Dr Bidhan Chandra Roy was felicitated with the Bharat Ratna award in 1961. The legendary physician was the second chief minister of West Bengal.

मर्ज जब ठीक हो जाए तो निश्चित ही मरीज के लिए डॉक्टर किसी भगवान से कम नहीं होते। इसीलिए 1 जुलाई को नेशनल डॉक्टर्स डे पृथ्वी पर मानवों का भगवान कहे जाने वाले डॉक्टरों को समर्पित है। संसार के अलग-अलग देशों में ये अलग-अलग दिन मनाया जाता है। भारत के प्रसिद्ध डॉक्टर बिधान चन्द्र रॉय को श्रद्धांजलि और सम्मान देने के लिये 1 जुलाई को उनकी जयंती और पुण्यतिथि पर इसे प्रतिवर्ष मनाये जाने के लिए भारत सरकार ने 1991 में घोषणा की थी। जिसका मुख्य उद्देश्य डॉक्टरों की बहुमूल्य सेवा, भूमिका और महत्व के बारे में आमजनों को जागरूक करना है। डॉ. रॉय का जन्म 1 जुलाई 1882 को बिहार के पटना में हुआ था. वो एक प्रसिद्ध डॉक्टर और नामी शिक्षाविद् होने के साथ ही एक महान स्वतंत्रता सेनानी भी थे।
