World’s fastest supercomputer in Japan researches spread and treatment of Covid-19

The new Japanese supercomputer Fugaku was ranked the world’s most powerful computer on June 22, 2020 on the TOP500 site which tracks the evolution of computer processing power. For the first time in nine years, Japan has the world’s fastest computer, overtaking Summit developed in the US. The Japanese supercomputer was developed by government research group Riken and Fujitsu. Fugaku, another name for Mount Fuji, is used to research the spread of the coronavirus and identify treatments.
