Japan has announced its intention to build the world's fastest and most efficient supercomputer by the end of 2017. Bidding for the future computer, called Artificial Intelligence Bridging Cloud Infrastructure, will end on Dec. 8. The computer could greatly enhance artificial intelligence and provide researchers insight into advanced computing technology. As far as we know, there is nothing out there that is as fast," Satoshi Sekiguchi, a director at AIST, told Reuters. The supercomputer, which will run on Linux, will be constructed at the University of Tokyo's Kashiwa Campus.
