These motorists were given a shock when they struck a startled deer hopping across a road in Burnsville, North Carolina.

The distressing dashcam footage shows the animal sprint across the road before it was hit by the oncoming vehicle on June 20.

The filmer commented: "Luckily we were both fine in the car, just spooked us a lot."

They later added that the animal was killed from the impact of the crash.
