First Female Spacewalker Kathy Sullivan Becomes First Woman to Reach Deepest Point in Ocean
  • 4 years ago
Former NASA astronaut Kathy Sullivan made history by becoming the first woman to walk in space, now she's also made history by venturing to the deepest point in the ocean.

68-year-old record-breaking U.S. astronaut Kathy Sullivan descended to the "Challenger Deep" in the Pacific Ocean on June 7th. She is now the first human to have been in space and at full ocean depth.

The journey took place onboard the "Limiting Factor," a submarine that has been to the deepest point in all 5 of the Earth's oceans.

Sullivan conducted a three-and-a-half hour spacewalk outside the Challenger shuttle with her fellow Astronaut David Leetsma in 1984.
