Apocalyptic movies predict civilizational collapse will be brought about with a bang, a catastrophic war for example. But civilizations have been reduced to dust in the past and the process is far more insidious. Many great civilzations of old have risen, flourished and collapsed, their end dictated significantly by environmental factors among other things. While we tend to overlook environmental damage and its consequences upon us in the modern day, we only have to take lessons from our ancestors for course correction. On World Environment Day, let us take a look at the past of climate change.
