Even as the Union Cabinet gave its nod to NDA government's flagship smart city project last month, no city from Maharashtra has yet been included in the programme as the Centre's guidelines are awaited for it. A total of 100 cities will be selected for the project through a Smart City Challenge competition. According to the Union Urban Development Ministry, around Rs 40 lakh crore will be required to build 100 smart cities.
