In 1981, a disease was observed in some people, which was destroying the body's resistance, the name of this disease was AIDS. Since then, scientists have started trying to find its medicine and vaccine, but even after four decades they have not been successful. Certain medicines have come, which are not able to eliminate AIDS, but reduce its effect. World AIDS Vaccine Day is observed every year on 18 May to make people aware of AIDS vaccine.

1981 में कुछ लोगों में एक बीमारी देखी गई, जो शरीर की प्रतिरोधक क्षमता को खत्म कर रही थी, इस बीमारी का नाम था एड्स। उसके बाद से वैज्ञानिकों ने इसकी दवा और वैक्सीन खोजने की कोशिश शुरू की, लेकिन चार दशक में भी उन्हें सफलता हासिल नहीं हुई। कुछ दवाएं जरूर आई हैं, जो एड्स को तो खत्म नहीं कर पातीं, लेकिन उसके प्रभाव को कम कर देती हैं। एड्स वैक्सीन के प्रति लोगों को जागरुक करने के लिए हर साल 18 मई को वर्ल्ड एड्स वैक्सीन डे मनाया जाता है।
