Virtual fans as baseball season opens in South Korea

South Korea's professional baseball league officially opened on Tuesday.

The ten team KBO began the season with a ful schedule of games behind closed doors, joining Taiwan's CPBL as the world's only professional baseball leagues operating due to the coronavirus pandemic.

South Korean Baseball Organization announced earlier that it would start the league without fans and gradually open the games for public access depending on how the coronavirus situations develop.

Fake fans were displayed in the ballpark while real fans kept up via team teleconferences and by watching on tablets while seated outside the stadium. In the first game of the day, the host Hanwha Eagles shutout the SK Wyverns 3-0 in Incheon.
