Colourful parade celebrates flower festival in northern Thailand

Colourful footage shows locals taking part in parade to celebrate a flower festival in northern Thailand.

Thousands of people joined the procession in Chiang Mai province on Sunday (February 9). It's held each winter when cooler temperatures as low as 5C lead to flowers in the mountainous region blooming.

Dancers wore brightly coloured silk costumes and floats were decorated with thousands of blooming flowers grown in local farms.

A competition was also held for the most beautifully decorated car in the region's 44th annual flower festival.
