Philippines Taal volcano: Timelapse video shows lightning pierce ash

Stunning timelapse footage shows lightning bolts piercing a thick plume of ash spewing from the Taal Volcano in the Philippines.
The volcano began rumbling - causing terrifying tremors for those living nearby - yesterday (January 12) in Batangas province, around 100km from the centre of the capital Metro Manila.
The timelapse video was captured from a nearby home between around 5.30pm and the sunset at 6pm. Shocked residents, even more than 100km away in Manila, felt the effects of ash falling on their homes and cars after the plumes stretched 1km into the sky.
Authorities raised the alert level, warning that a “hazardous eruption” was possible within weeks. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology warned residents living nearby of a possible “volcanic tsunami.” Flights were suspended at Manila's international airport because of the volcanic ash.
