Mass evacuation as Philippines’ Taal volcano spews lava and ash

Lava and ash have been spewing from the Taal volcano in the Philippine province of Batangas, 65km (40 miles) south of the capital Manila. Since the volcano became more active on January 12, 2020, more than 7,700 people have been evacuated. Authorities have raised an alert to level 4 on a scale of 5, as they warned of a possible hazardous eruption and volcanic tsunami. The last time Taal erupted was in 1977.
