Heavy snowfall blankets picturesque villages of northern India

The ongoing cold wave in north India has led to more snowfall in the upper reaches of the state of Uttarakhand.

Video shot on January 9 near Palota shows layers of fresh snow forming a enchanting sight as it covers houses of the valley.

Visuals show the beautiful aftermath of the heavy snowfall where the houses across the district are covered in snow, while local authorities work to clear the roads.

According to reports, the most heavily affected places include Auli, Tharali, and Joshimath in Chamoli district.

Predictions by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), claim that hailstorms, rainfall and more snow are expected to hit the state during the weekend.
