While speaking to ANI in Mumbai on December 28, veteran Congress leader Ashok Chavan said, “Today is the foundation day of Congress party. Our party was formed 134 years back in this historical hall. We have begun our ‘Tiranga March’ from this historic place today.” “That time the challenge before us was to give independence to our country from the British rule and we had our forefathers, father of the nation Mahatma Gandhi, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, Baba Saheb Ambedkar etc. They have fought to liberate the nation from the British rule,” he added. “Today, after 134 years the challenge before us is to keep the country united, to face the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). They are trying to polarise the nation on various issues and creating a divide and trying to rule the country,” Chavan further stated.
