Call for Disability Inclusion in Hollywood.
A number of stars have signed an open letter
urging Hollywood executives to create a more
inclusive environment for actors with disabilities. .
The open letter, circulated by the Ruderman Family
Foundation, urges Hollywood executives to audition
and cast “qualified performers with disabilities.” .
According to the letter,
a total of 27 people have
won Oscar awards for playing
a character with a disability.
Out of those 27, only two roles were authentically
portrayed by an actor with a disability. .
While many beloved characters have a
disability, opportunities for actors with
disabilities are virtually non-existent ...
it is still the norm for able-bodied actors
to play characters with disabilities. , Via Ruderman Foundation.
So far, celebrities such as Orlando Jones,
Edward Norton, Bryan Cranston and
Mark Ruffalo have signed on in support. .
Danny DeVito, Glenn Close, Chris Cooper, Norman Lear
and Marlee Matlin have also signed the open letter.
