Michael Owen is predicting contrasting fortunes for two of his former clubs following the UEFA Champions League last 16 draw.

Owen told SNTV in an exclusive interview that he is backing his boyhood club Liverpool to beat Atletico Madrid but believes Manchester City will prove too strong for his Real Madrid, where he played for one season between 2004 and 2005.

The former Liverpool and England international also backed proposals that could see the Champions League extended from its current format, rejecting suggestions that it could dilute the competition.
