Trump Administration to
Interpret Judaism as Nationality.
President Donald Trump will sign an
executive order Wednesday recognizing
Judaism as a nationality and not just a religion.
The White House believes the move
will help combat what they perceive
as anti-Semitism on college campuses.
Educational institutions receiving federal funding
would now be punished for discrimination and
violations based on the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
While some are in support of the decision, others
feel it was designed to have a "chilling effect on free
speech and to crack down on campus critics of Israel." .
We feel it is misguided and harmful for the White House to unilaterally declare a broad range of nonviolent campus criticism of Israel to be anti-Semitic, especially at a time when the prime driver of anti-Semitism in this country is the xenophobic, white nationalist far-right. , J Street President Jeremy Ben-Ami, via statement.
