The frantic scenes were capture inside a shopping mall in Ayuttayah, central Thailand, where bosses at Cineplex had just announced all screenings would cost 25 baht (64 pence).

Hundreds of locals crammed into the venue to be first in line for the cut-price movies. Some were so desperate they ran the wrong way up moving escalators.

Onlooker Sirichai Pornsak said: ''The queues were so long, waited for an hour just to get a ticket. Some people couldn't go inside because it was already full.

''I didn't push anybody out of the way but there were some people that were too much, they behaved badly and rushed, which made it unsafe for others.''
