Miraculous Escape: Shocking Photos | Plane crashes into ski lift & entangled in overhead cables

A pilot and his passenger had a narrow escape after their plane crashed into a ski lift and got entangled with the overhead cables at a ski resort in the Italian Alps, Daily Mail reports. Pictures of the crash were shared on Facebook by CNSAS, the national cave and mountain rescue unit of Italy.

Images showed that the aircraft was left dangling upside down after it got entangled with the cables of the ski lift. As a result of the crash, the 62-year-old pilot was thrown on to the wing from inside the plane. Call it a miracle but he did not suffer serious injuries, Daily Mail states, adding that he was hospitalised though, soon after.

The passenger in the plane was a 55-year-old tourist from Varese and also wasn't injured as such. It took almost ninety minutes to rescue the pilot and the passenger with the help of 20 army personnel, firefighters along with cave and mountain rescuers. While speaking to the Daily Mail about the incident, Walter Milan, a spokesman for the Corpo Nazionale Soccorso Alpino e Speleologico, said that it was a miraculous escape.

"They really were very, very lucky. It was a miraculous escape. The plane crashed into the cables but fortunately it became stuck rather than crashing to the ground. The rescue operation was very tricky. The rescuers had to very carefully manoeuvre along the cables very, very slowly. We didn't want the cables moving any more than necessary. Ropes were then secured around the two men. The whole operation to bring them to safety took an hour and a half," Walter Milan told.

"We had 20 rescue personnel and two helicopters involved. It was a miracle. The pilot suffered injuries but not too serious. Both men were of course very shocked also," he added.

Walter Milan also told that the cause of the crash is being investigated.
