Mattel Partners With National Geographic
to Release Photojournalist Barbie.
Mattel recently announced the release of a new line of Barbie
dolls that highlight exploration and science-based professions. .
They’ve reportedly entered a worldwide licensing
agreement with National Geographic to create the dolls. .
Barbie allows girls to try on new roles through
storytelling by showing them they can be anything
… girls can now imagine themselves as an
astrophysicist, polar marine biologist and more, Lisa McKnight, Senior Vice President of Barbie, via NBC.
According to Mattel, each doll and playset
will come with “relevant accessories” that have
been authenticated by an “advisory council.”.
The council is reportedly made up of
female National Geographic Explorers and
the magazine’s editor-in-chief, Susan Goldberg.
As stated by Goldberg, National Geographic’s
partnership with Mattel has been done with
the hopes of “[reaching] kids in a new way.”.
