Employees at a gas station in southern China calmly put out a fire on a scooter, averting catastrophe.

The scooter caught alight after its rider started it up while next to a gas pump.

CCTV video, filmed in the city of Yingtan on October 5, shows a ball of fire suddenly emerging from the scooter after a man attempted to drive away.

He quickly got off and a gas station worker ran onto the forecourt to put out the fire using an extinguisher.

The scooter owner watches the action unfold from a close distance.

Fortunately, no one was injured. An investigation is underway.
