California Counties Could Lose Power Over Wildfire Concerns Pacific Gas & Electric says up to 29 counties may
be affected this week. The power switch-off would be due to an upcoming period of dry and windy conditions hitting the areas. PG&E says the intentional shutdowns are being considered after a recent report by the
National Weather Service. PG&E spokesman Jason King, via weather.com The news comes after PG&E halted power in Butte, Plumas and Yuba counties this past weekend. In that shutdown, which was over similar weather concerns, just over 10,000 people were affected. Gusty conditions have the potential to blow down power lines. The lines could potentially then fall into heavily-vegetated areas and quickly spark wildfires. Lines specifically belonging to PG&E have been blamed for some of the state's worst fires in
recent years.
